My OCD Child, Future Accountant

No offense to someone whose child actually is OCD, but wait a minute, maybe mine actually is too. I could blame our comfort with lack of structure in her formative years. Or lack of structure now. Well, anyway, Maxine is obsessed with order. She must wear her clothes in the order they appear in her drawer, been doing this for years now. Also, when faced with any choice at all, she picks the first one. Then hopes for repeated opportunities to work through the list. In order. I was trying to explain to her why this might be a problem, using my course registration guide.

me: I'm worried that you won't learn how to make decisions, and that you always just choose the first one. What if, when you go to college, you just choose the first class in the book instead of thinking about what you want to do? Then you just have to be an accountant, because it starts with A.
her: What's an accountant?
me: someone who counts other people's money, and figures out their taxes.
her: (pause.) Well, that doesn't sound too bad. It's better than working in a hospital.

So, its decided. Future accountant. Or Advertising executive. Air traffic controller?

That's kind of funny. FWIW, I am fairly obsessive about the order my clothes are in my drawer, and have been for as long as I can remember. I wear my t-shirts, jeans, and underwear in order. When I wash them, they go to the bottom of the pile. The only exception is when I am on vacation (in which case I take my best-loved things and play favorites. Except for underwear, which I would still grab from the drawer. In order). So maybe Maxine got a bit of my obsessiveness.

Also, Maxine can be an acrobat. Or an actuary. Acupuncturist? A.A. Milne biographer?

omg, so then, she totally takes after her aunt Blythe. You have the drawer thing, too.
also, you just inspired me to look up circus classes at city museum. I think she would really like that.

Lol. Accounting sounds like about the worst job ever to me, but to each their own! They make pretty good money. I think they also tend to be type-A personalities, so get her working now on stress reduction :p.

As for circus classes, she would totally love that. I think the students perform at some point. Please let us know when so we can visit and check out her show :).
