My mother's fondest wish in life was to have a daughter that sewed, but somehow, I never learned. I think when the time came in jr. high to choose electives, and she suggested sewing, I responded with derision, how I hated sewing, I'm going to take advanced art and why do you want me to be just like you anyway! You never respect the person I am! ((doorslam))
Well, mom, if whatever realm you spirit currently resides in has internet access, I have to say, you were right! Sewing is awesome! I can now appreciate all the reasons why you liked it - its thrifty, creative, social, ultilitarian, and fun.
Some of my friends started up Sewing Mondays. Sylwinn has generously offered her house, machines, and mad sewing skills for teaching those of us who don't sew yet. It's general mix of mamas, babies, toddlers, food, and projects.
Here is my first project: wool longies. You find a wool sweater at the thrift store, cut the sleeves off, and sew them together, ta-da. Technically this is very easy, but I'm immensely proud of myself, anyway.
I have about ten more pictures just like this.
"MAMA! Stop taking pictures and get me out of this bouncy seat!"
