My brain is full.

My computer's brain that is. I can put any more pictures on it until the external hard drive I just ordered gets here, which is too bad because I have a ridiculously adorable picture of Maxine with blueberry pie on her face, to accompany a brag post about how I made the best blueberry pie ever.
Until then, happy Sun in Leo, everyone. I won't bore you with the details, but I've been doing a lot of inner work on myself and felt a profound shift yesterday. What a relief!

7/7/07

Taking an easy day today, hanging aroung the house lightly cleaning and not doing much of anything. I still feel the urge to read all the time, so I'm going with it. Maxine is watching Star Wars, her choice. I'm hoping we'll do band tonight.
I think we'll head over to the wading pool tomorrow. We have been going every Saturday, and Xine and Jason go during the week a lot, too. For you out-of-towners, the wading pool is THE scene of South City families. On Saturday mornings, there's a farmer's market next to it, and you pretty much bump into tons of friends and aquaintences there without having to plan anything out. St. Louis may be big, but South City is like a small town sometimes, and I like that. Maxine will happily play there for hours, and we have to drag her away when it's time to go. Here's some pics from the fountains early in the mornings, before the pool fills and it starts getting crazy. Maxine is showing off her choice of bathing suits, ie, her regular clothes. Go figure.

We had a good Fourth of July, at the last minute we ended up hosting a little gathering. I realized 3 very important things:
1. Making salsa from canned tomatoes is a piece of cake.
2. We desperately need patio furniture so that our friends don't have to sit on the ground. Also, maybe a baby pool and horseshoes.
3. Our friends are rad, and we appreciate having them here! OK, well, we knew that already.

The Hungry Ghost is a Search Engine

Sometimes I feel like a hungry ghost on the internet.

Quote from Buddhamind.info:

Hungry Ghosts:
Characterised by - Greed; Insatiable cravings; Addictions.
"I want this, I need this, 1 have to have this".
This is the realm of intense craving. The Hungry Ghosts are shown with enormous stomachs and tiny necks - they want to cat, but cannot swallow; when they try to drink. the liquid turns to fire, intensifying their thirst. The torture of the hungry ghost is not so much the frustration of not being able to get what he wants. rather it is his clinging to those things he mistakenly thinks will bring satisfaction and relief. The Buddha in this Realm holds a Bowl from which the 'gifts of the gods' are distributed. This is to entice the hungry ghosts to desire for the Truth which is the only way that the deepest longings and hungers can be satisfied.
Consider: 'Gollum' from Lord of the Rings; The obssessive nature of Video Games; Addictions of various sorts; We can be helped in this Realm by our willingness to 'look up', to see beyond our obssessions.

Hungry ghosts are always looking. It's like this lullaby I sing to Maxine:
"Look her comes Daisy
She's looking for something
She knows and we know that something is missing."

It's my day off. I woke up early to log my temp on fertility friend. Then I'm on here, so I check all my emails, blogs, and bookmarks, looking for something. Everything's quiet. I'm looking for friendship, sometimes I find it and make a connection with someone through this machine. I'm looking for my family, they are far from me. I'm looking for a crocheted hemp hat. I'm looking for something to do with my life, maybe I should check Monster and look for a career? I'm looking for a grad school program that I can start tomorrow, though what I want to do changes weekly. I'm looking for a guarantee from the universe that I will get pregnant this month. I'm looking for books, always. I'm looking up friends from my childhood. I'm looking at my netflix queue.
What I'm really saying is, I need to get off the computer, do yoga, eat breakfast and clean the bathroom and the kitchen floor. Why is the endless search so much more enticing? Maybe I'll google it.
